COURSE TITLE WAH1 - Basic Work at Height and Harness Awareness
 

Course Objectives:

Delegates will receive detailed awareness training and will be given the opportunity to apply practical understanding of the hazards, risks and control associated with working safely at heights.

Who the course is aimed at:

This half day course is suitable for roof workers, scaffolders, tradespersons, steel workers, powered access operators and all persons required to work at heights. Delegates will receive detailed awareness training and will be given the opportunity to apply practical knowledge.

Course Programme - AWARENESS of:

  • Overview of current legislation, ACOPs, and industry best practice

  • Hierarchy of control associated with working at height

  • A-B-C-D (fall arrest/restraint/work positioning)

  • Risk Assessment

  • Fall prevention measures to include scaffolds, portable aluminium towers, MEWPs and other forms of edge protection

  • Fall arrest to include safety nets, bags, safety harnesses, running lines etc

  • Working safely on roofs

  • Fragile surfaces

  • Failing objects precautions

  • Use of other access equipment to include ladders, step ladders and trestles

  • Harness donning


Training Method:

This is a Half Day classroom based course, with assessments.

 

COURSE TITLE WAH2 - COMPETENT PERSON - Safe Use & Inspection of Harness and Fall Arrest / Restraint Equipment 

Course Objectives:

On completion of this course the trainee will be able to Inspect, identify defects and record results of that inspection.


The Work at Height Regulations 2005 & Provision & Use Of Work Equipment Regulations 1998(PUWER) require PFPE / Work Equipment to be fit for use.


Periodic inspections enable the Equipment (should it pass) to be used for the next period.

Who the course is aimed at:

The training is intended to benefit individuals involved with managing, supervising or wearing Harness and Lanyards at work.

- Statutory Instruments & Standards
- Equipment standards
- Types of Harnesses/Safety Lanyards and integral shock absorbers
- Types of connectors/Anchorage slings and strops
- General care and maintenance of equipment
- Inspections and examinations
- Inspection cards / technical information
- Written Test Paper
- Practical Sessions / Appraisals

COURSE TITLE WAH3 - Managing Work at Height in the Workplace

Course attendees will be taught all the necessary knowledge and skills they need to be able to safely plan, supervise and manage working at height activities – such as managing contractors who must carry out work at height tasks. This management course is classroom and theory based. Course attendees will be given the opportunity to learn and develop working at height safety documentation such as risk assessments, method statements and rescue plans.


This course covers:
•    Risk assessment review and writing
•    Method statement review and writing
•    Permit issuing
•    Monitoring work at height
•    Formulating a rescue plan
•    Current legislation
•    Hierarchy of control
•    Selection of work methods
•    Safe use of ladders
•    Introduction to personal fall protection equipment
•    PPE inspection requirements

Successful course attendees should leave this course being able to:
•    Understand the main health and safety principles of working at height.
•    Know the hazards and risks associated with work at height.
•    Know the methods of reducing risk and injury including the hierarchy of controls relating to working at height
•    Understand the types of personal fall protection systems and the differences between fall arrest, work restraint and work positioning.
•    Understand procedures and practices for controlling risks to health and safety, preparing for working at height and using access equipment, Personal Fall Protection Systems (PFPS) and PPE
•    Demonstrate competency in developing a risk assessment/method statement for a working at height task.
•    Demonstrate competency in planning procedures for rescue and other incidents.
